Environmental Sustainability

The EICC environmental sustainability working group works to identify key environmental issues to address in the electronics supply chain, and to develop tools and a resource hub to help EICC members manage environmental data, generate environmental reports and benchmark and track their supply chain’s environmental performance.

These tools include:

  • Environmental reporting: The EICC Environmental Reporting Initiative standardizes approaches to measuring and reporting on key carbon, water and waste indicators in the global electronics supply chain. This initiative was previously known as the Carbon and Water Reporting Initiative. The Environmental Reporting Initiative is based on global standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and established reporting formats such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the Global Reporting Initiative. The tool integrates a standardized questionnaire for gathering quantitative carbon emissions, energy, water, and waste data, as well as qualitative information on suppliers' environmental management practices. Additional information about using the tool through EICC-ON is available on our EICC-ON page.
  • Product lifecycle sustainability: A task force of EICC members produced a technical paper on the lifecycle environmental impacts of ICT products. The EICC continues to identify product-related supply chain sustainability projects to address, either as a coalition or in partnership with other organizations.
  • Water: The environmental sustainability working group is currently building a resource hub for best practices in water efficiency for the electronics industry, and is helping to promote water-related trainings and tools for all EICC members.
